Payhembury Community Emergency Plan
Nearly all emergencies affecting communities are dealt with by a joined up, multi-agency response (the emergency services, local authorities, utilities and voluntary agencies). However, a situation could occur, such as extensive flooding, storm damage, deep snow, power outage or major incident, which could put pressure on resources.
Communities pull together automatically to support each other when emergencies occur. However, communities are also encouraged to have in place a Community Emergency Plan to make their response even more organised and effective. Emergency responders say that it helps when they know who to talk to in the community and have planned what to do in advance.
Payhembury’s Community Emergency Plan was originally written in 2017 and a lot has changed since then. The plan has now been updated and the new version has been incorporated into ‘Resilience Direct’, the emergency services site.
The Parish Council would like to thank Steve Jones for all of his hard work, time and effort in bringing the Community Emergency Plan up to date. It is down to his efforts that the Devon Communities Resilience Forum described the updated plan as one of the most thorough they had seen. Thank you, Steve.
Poffit Lane & dog poo
Poffit Lane is a lovely local footpath, enjoyed by many. Unfortunately the pleasure of walking this route has been spoilt for a lot of people recently by the large amount of dog poo that is being left on the footpath. Some of it has just been left where the dog performed, some has been bagged up and then the bags left behind.
There are a lot of very responsible dog owners who use Poffit lane and clear up after their dogs – thank you to them. To the few people who aren’t doing this – PLEASE take your dog’s poo home. You are currently spoiling this lovely area for everyone else by not doing so.
Have your say on the future of councils in Devon
Devon is undergoing a major transformation in how local government works. The number of Devon councils is due to be reduced as part of UK Government proposals to create ’empowered, simplified, resilient and sustainable’ unitary authorities. This means that the current district and county council model will be replaced by a unitary council, responsible for delivering all services within a particular area; a new Devon.
We’d like to hear about what’s important to you and how you think Devon’s councils and services could be structured to ensure the best services for all people in Devon.

Have your say on the name for the
new community planned near Westpoint
Help name East Devon’s New Community! We’ve shortlisted four potential names and want your views on which one best fits the new community to create a vision for its future.
East Devon District Council is progressing plans for a new community planned near Westpoint, in the west of the district. As part of this work, a public consultation is being held to help determine the name of the new community. Residents, stakeholders and local businesses are invited to rank options in order of preference from a shortlist of four potential names. The four options are Newton Clyst, Marlcombe, Willowcrest and Clysthope and the reasoning behind each of those options is given at the start of the survey
The consultation closes on the 26th August at 5pm – https://newcommunitynameconsultation.commonplace.is/
