Thermal Camera – winter 2024
Would you be interested in finding out where, and how much, heat is escaping from your house?
The Blackdown Hills Parish Network (BHPN) has a Thermal Camera which can be used to identify heat loss from properties and, as a member of the BHPN, the Parish Council are able to borrow this camera. The camera can only be used during the winter when the temperature drops low enough. The Parish Council hope to borrow the cameras for a couple of weeks, but do not currently have any dates for when that would be.
If you would be interested in having your property assessed, please let Cllr Paul Thomas know (paul.thomas@payhembury-pc.gov.uk or phone number at the back of the parish paper). Paul will then organise suitable dates and times for an assessment, depending on the level of interest.
Road on the north side of the village green
A number of people have contacted the Parish Council about the poor state of the road to the north of the village green (in front of Higher House and Wren Cottage). There is concern that the uneven surface is difficult to walk over, especially for those with more limited mobility, and that it is only a matter of time before some-one has a nasty fall.
The road has been reported to Devon County Council Highways and they have inspected the road. Their view is that it does not meet their criteria for a safety problem and that no action will be taken. Unfortunately, although the Parish Road Warden is able to repair some of the potholes in the parish, he is unable to improve this road surface as the materials he has available are not suitable. If the road deteriorates further it will be reported again – www.devon.gov.uk/roads-and-transport/report-a-problem/
Christmas Tree 2024
In the autumn of 2022 a number of very generous individuals and businesses in the parish donated money towards a Christmas Tree for the village green. They were so generous that the funds raised paid for a Christmas Tree in December 2022, another Christmas Tree in December 2023 and will also pay for a Christmas Tree for December 2024!!
Further details, including dates and times for the switch on of the Christmas Tree lights, will be included in next month’s Parish Paper.
